One important part of poker is imperfect information. Some cards will always be concealed from all players, or from all players except for the player who his holding these specific cards. There is also a rare form of poker where the players know about each other’s cards, but never see their own hand until showdown. Since poker is a game of imperfect information, it differs from many other types of games where all players have access to exactly the same visible information. If you play a game of chess, both you and your opponent will know exactly where all the chess pieces stand throughout the entire game. When you play a game of poker, you will however know only your own cards, and sometimes even have face-down cards in front of you that you can not look at until showdown. Your opponents will know about their own cards, but not about your cards. Poker decisions will therefore always be based on imperfect information. Understanding the statistics of poker is therefore very important. Many successful poker players will also be very observant when seated at a poker table and carefully observe the playing style of the other players.
