Is there a right or wrong time to raise in the game? I mean say you have a very good hand from the start. Would you play dumb for a while or raise each round? I tend to raise too early and give my hand away I think.
There's always a good time to raise. For example, if you have pocket Aces under the gun, a rookie player would tend to limp because if he raises he might give away the strength of the hand. In reality, there are so many weak players, especially online, that if you do make the standard raise there you could still get called, especially during the early stages. But, when you have Aces under the gun, it is always correct to raise because if you call you will give others pot odds to limp with suited connecters and small pairs, hands that can beat aces if the right flop comes out. But you want to do alot of your raising post-flop when you think you have the best hand and you want to take down the pot. The only right times to raise pre-flop if you have strong hands to start, like pairs or AK in middle or late positions. Late in a tourney however you do want to do more raising pre-flop to steal blinds and antes to build your stack, though if you do this too much, you will get caught doing it eventually, so do it carefully.
Point is, there is always a right time to raise, you just have to know when.
You should always be aware of the correct amount of the bet and the position you are in. You should raise 3 to 4 times the blind. Something not to cheap so the crappy hands go away but not much, you want to encourage a little action since you have the AA, KK, AK.
There is a right and wrong time to raise. You should raise when your plays are profitable. Things that determine raising are if you think you have a better hand, you think you can make them fold, or you want the person to think you are stronger than you really are to bluff them later.
When I flop a hand that I know is strong and will probaly win, I bet the flop, not to much to scare anyone away, and to see if anyone raises me, then on the turn I'll bet just alittle more to see what the other players do, and on the river I will put out a bet that will hopefully get a call or even a raise, if I get raised then I put out a large re-raise and beg for a call, thats when oyu got them.
